Terms of use
Also written in plain language. This is a small, honest project, not a law firm. Last updated 1 September 2026.
What this site is
Scam Smash is an independent, volunteer-run directory and set of educational tools. It is not a government body, a law firm, a financial advisor, or a recovery service. By using this site, you agree to these terms.
Who can use this site
This site is intended for a general audience. If you're a minor, please use it with a parent, guardian, or another trusted adult, especially before acting on anything here or sharing information with a third party it links to.
No guarantees
Information on this site is general and can go out of date. Phone numbers, URLs, and agency names change. Every link is checked by hand when added, but we can't guarantee any listing is current at the moment you read it. Always verify you're on an organisation's real, official domain before entering any details.
Not advice
Nothing on this site is legal, financial, medical, or professional advice. The health check and the warning-sign checker reflect general patterns, not a judgement about your specific situation. Use your own judgement, and consult a qualified professional where one is warranted.
No liability
To the maximum extent permitted by the law that applies to you, Scam Smash accepts no liability for loss or damage arising from use of this site, including reliance on any listing, tool, or piece of information here. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited in your jurisdiction.
Outbound links
We link to government agencies, banks, charities, and similar organisations. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability.
Content and trademarks
The text, design, and tools on this site belong to Scam Smash unless stated otherwise, and are made available for your personal, non-commercial use. Names, logos, and trademarks of the government agencies, banks, and organisations we link to or mention belong to their respective owners; referencing them here doesn't imply endorsement by, or affiliation with, Scam Smash.
If part of these terms doesn't hold up
If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still stands. That one part will be read in a way that's as close as possible to what it originally meant, within the law.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This doesn't take away any consumer protection you're entitled to under the law of the country you live in, where that law says it applies regardless.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
